RAPID COMMUNICATIONS Venous and Cerebrospinal Fluid Flow in Multiple Sclerosis: A Case-Control Study

چکیده
The prevailing view on multiple sclerosis etiopathogenesis has been challenged by the suggested new entity chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency. To test this hypothesis, we studied 21 relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis cases and 20 healthy controls with phasecontrast magnetic resonance imaging. In addition, in multiple sclerosis cases we performed contrastenhanced magnetic resonance angiography. We found no differences regarding internal jugular venous outflow, aqueductal cerebrospinal fluid flow, or the presence of internal jugular blood reflux. Three of 21 cases had internal jugular vein stenoses. In conclusion, we found no evidence confirming the suggested vascular multiple sclerosis hypothesis. ANN NEUROL 2010;68:255–259

The Serum Amyloid β Level in Multiple Sclerosis: A Case- Control Study
Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most common autoimmune diseases in adults that cause disability in patients. Different studies were conducted on more rapid diagnosis of the disease such as measuring serum or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) contents. Objectives: The current study aimed at measuring amyloid β (Aβ) serum levels in patients with relapsing-remitting MS. Mater...
متن کاملFour-dimensional flow magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound assessment of cerebrospinal venous flow in multiple sclerosis patients and controls
A possibly causal relationship between multiple sclerosis and chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency has recently been hypothesized. Studies investigating chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency have reported conflicting results and few have employed multiple diagnostic imaging modalities across a large patient and control population. In this study, three complementary imaging modalities...
متن کاملThe severity of chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency in patients with multiple sclerosis is related to altered cerebrospinal fluid dynamics.
Chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI) is a vascular picture that shows a strong association with multiple sclerosis (MS). The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between a Doppler cerebral venous hemodynamic insufficiency severity score (VHISS) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow dynamics in 16 patients presenting with CCSVI and relapsing-remitting MS (CCSVI-MS) an...
متن کاملAssociation between chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency and multiple sclerosis: a meta-analysis.
BACKGROUND It has been proposed by Zamboni and colleagues that multiple sclerosis is caused by chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency, a term used to describe ultrasound-detectable abnormalities in the anatomy and flow of intra- and extracerebral veins. We conducted a meta-analysis of studies that reported the frequency of chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency among patients with and t...
متن کاملP 4: The Hypothesis Detect Multiple Sclerosis in Early Stage with Saliva Testing
Introduction: Recent studies point to the clinical and research efficacy of saliva as a respected diagnostic aid for observing Multiple Sclerosis. The objectives of this Hypothesis are to identify novel biomarkers recognized to Multiple Sclerosis in early stage in saliva and to determine if the levels of these markers correlate with level of these Cerebrospinal fluid and blood assays and urine ...
